Hello Everyone! 大家好！

And welcome (欢迎) to my first blog post and video of "Beauty & Language w/Linna".

I wanted to change my Channel in a way that it might be different from others to feel different, but also be in those communities I enjoy to watch and participate in.  And my two communities are beauty and language.  Which is why I decided to only upload one video a week where I do more research in the language part to give the most accurate information to the viewers (aka you reading/watching), but also have fun content for you to enjoy as well which is the beauty part.  So let´s get into this!

In this video, I added 42 Chinese words for you guys to learn (and myself as well).  I also have a Quizlet quiz with these vocabularies so you can practice in a more easy way:

This is a link to the vocabulary set, but there is a folder for all the upcoming videos as well so save that link so you can find it again if you want to go back and use the other sets to practice.  I also have other sets which are for my current Chinese language learning books for University courses.  You can of course use them as well if you are more of a beginner.  And I can make a video of Books and Websites/Apps that I recommend to learn Chinese.  So let me know if you want to see that as well.

DISCLAIMER! **I am a student myself and still learning Chinese.  I am no expert, so this is us learning together.  Not me teaching everything like a teacher teaching students.  I am just giving the vocabulary and some sentences for you to have an idea on how the words can be used.  I am also putting it here to get corrected if I am wrong so we all can learn.**

I have not prepared any specific grammar rules for these words, but I have some sentences we could try to use these words in:

- 你记得你第一的化妆品？= Do you remember your first makeup product?

你（nǐ）= you;    记得（jìde）= remember.

- 我有一张优待券。= I have a discount coupon.

我（wǒ）= Me, I;    有（yǒu）= have;    一张（yīzhāng）= one piece (measure word for piece of paper, ticket, etc)

- 我化妆时很笨拙。= When I put on makeup, I am very clumsy.

Now that we got the Chinese on the table, I will put in my answers to the questions in a written form if anyone wants to go back and look, and also maybe were confused with my talking due to me being bad at explaining or just talking in general. ( A little self-roast is healthy, so don´t worry about it)

1. Do you remember your first makeup item?

Yes, I had almost a full face of Viva La Diva, except mascara which was Maybeline Collosal.  I have some pictures of these products, which I can´t find the products anymore.  Though it is explanatory since it is about 9 years old, but I would love to use it again to see if it is as good as I remember.

2. Describe your perfect mascara.  Have you found one that fits your specifications?

So my perfect mascara is most likely what every other person wants. A lengthening, volumizing mascara that doesn´t clump up.

And yes, I have found 2 that does this.  1st is a drugstore brand, and 2nd is a high end brand.

The drugstore one is not cruelty free, but I love this brand:

The high end one is from a brand where I love the products, but not sure if I love the brand itself:

Hourglass "Caution Extreme Lash"

Both of them are doing everything I want and more to my lashes.  I do love these and I´m trying new once to find one from a cruelty free brand who is also inclusive with their products. (SHADE...)

3. What kind of coverage do you prefer from foundation?

It really depends on the season for me.  Because of heat, dryness, work, school, etc.  I like it different for the different occasions.
  If it´s summer time, I like a lighter coverage.  About Light - Medium coverage.  Those foundations or tinted moisturizers feels lighter on the skin which in the heat (if there is heat in Norway) it doesn´t feel like it´s melting off my face.  And I also usually work in Summer time as a technician or gutting fish, both very physically hard and tiring jobs, so I don´t really wear makeup then.
  When it´s winter time like now (ish) I like more coverage.  About Medium - Full coverage.  Then I am at school, and my face usually more dry, so foundations that aren´t drying help cover up my dry skin and also makes me look more awake and happy (due to winter´s darkness and the winter depressions intensity in Norway/Scandinavia).

4. Favourite high end brans?

I have a few.  Hourglass, MAC, and ABH.  I´ll let everyone know already that I don´t pay attention to the brands owners and controversies.. So I don´t know all bad things about them.  I know lately Hourglass is controversial lately or maybe a long time due to not being inclusive for all skin colours.  And it does make me lose respect for them.  So when I say favourite brand with Hourglass, I mean their products and not the brand in itself.  MAC I have 4 products, using their powder for many years and now I have other products as well, they have good products which I like a fair amount.  Same with ABH.  I have some palettes that I love and everytime I use them I feel good in them.  Very easy to use as well.  I´ve been wanting to try more MAC and ABH products, but MAC isn´t cruelty free which makes me not want to buy from them.  And the only reason I´m not buying from ABH is because I´m trying to buy less makeup.

5. What cosmetic brand have you always wanted to try but still haven´t?

I want to try Tarte due to all the influencers videos and trips about it, but I haven´t yet.  I don´t know why though.  I guess I just wanted to try other products first, and also I can only buy Tarte from their website since it isn´t in any retailers that are in Europe (or that ships to Norway).

6. Favorite drugstore brand?

I have three drugstore favourite brands as well.  Viva La Diva, Maybelline, and Colourpop.  Viva La Diva and Colourpop are both cruelty free and their products are very good (in my opinion) so I like buying from them.  Though, I can´t find Viva La Diva anywhere except on kicks´ website, and Colourpop have new collections every other week and I don´t have the money for it.  Maybelline is also good, not cruelty free though, but they have good products I have used for many years before I got more into using cruelty free products.

7. Do you wear fake eyelashes?

Sometimes!  I bought a big pack of fake eyelashes on the wish app about 3 years ago and I still have them.  I don´t use them super often, but I should use them more.  There are different styles of lashes too, but I have only tried the simple natural looking ones.  I also have a pair of Huda Beauty lashes and they are lovely! But I should through them away because I have used them for many weeks now (maybe even months).

8. Is there any kind of makeup you can´t leave the house without?

110% lip balm.  I use lip balm all day everyday and all year.  But other than that, I would say sometimes concealer under my eyes as well.  It really depends on how my under-eyes look.

9. What is your most cherished beauty product?

Again, lip balm!  It is my favourite beauty product and I can´t ever live without it.

10. How often do you shop for makeup? Do you like to pick up an item here and there or get lots of goodies at once?

I did usually buy some here and there, but lately I´ve been buying bundles of makeup products because I want to make videos on it and then play with it later.  Though I make a video of it an then barely touch it after due to project pan.  So now I try to have a low buy because I don´t want to overflow my drawers and my wallet.

11. Do you have a "Beauty budget" or you spend freely?

Yes, technically I have a beauty budget.  I have about $10 a week which is around $50 per month.  It is mostly for bathroom stuff, soap, or replacing any beauty product I finish up.  But I have gone over it in January and February.  Though I hope that in March I will be a little more chill on buying so much stuff.

12. Do you utilize coupons, rewards cards and sales when you shop for cosmetics?

YES OF COURSE! I use youtubers/influencers coupon/discount codes all the time.  And 110% sales.  If it can be as cheap as possible then I´d be happy.

13. What type of product do you buy the most of?

Lip products and eyeshadow palettes 110%.  I have over 100 lip products, lipsticks, lip liners, lip balms, all of that.  And I have over 30 eyeshadow palettes, maybe more I´m not sure.  But there is so many of those compared to my 3-4 bronzers..  It´s what makes me the most exciting to buy and try.

14. Is there any brand that you absolutely can´t stand?

Yes, of course there is.  We all know about the JS Cosmetics that has a controversial and just disgusting person.  I sadly have some of his products due to another disgusting dude, but since I used lots of money on it I will keep it to use, but not promote which is why this will be the only time I mention this brand.  I also dislike/can´t stand Hourglass´ behaviour lately on not being inclusive to all skin colours..  I hope they fix it, but since they haven´t yet, I won´t buy from them.

15. Do you avoid certain ingradients in cosmetics like parabens or sulfates?

No I do not, but I try now to stay as cruelty free as possible.  I do not know enough to answer this more in depth which is why this is the only thing I will mention.  But do let me know what I should avoid and also why.  I like to know reasons so it is easier to remember things like this.

16. Do you have a favourite place to shop for makeup?

I do have a few now.  My favourite ones are Beautybay, Cultbeauty, Blivakker, Normal, and Kicks.  The first 2 are more European retailers that has some good products I can´t get just in Norway, and the last 3 are Norwegian retailers that has quick shipping (Normal is only physical store) and the products aren´t too expensive after adding tax and stuff like that.

17. Do you like trying new skincare products or do you keep a certain routine?

I do like to try new stuff, but I like to finish up a product before I try something new.  But if I still feel like some products are better than the newly tried ones, I will repurchase them, but for now I´m just looking for the perfect routine.

18. Favourite bath and body brand?

I really like Lush for body, and Bedhead for hair products, but I don´t really have much other bath products due to not having a bath tub.  Only a shower, so I haven´t tried anything else.

19. If you could only buy from one brand, which brand would you choose?

Viva La Diva or NYX.  Both brands amazing and they are cruelty free.  So I could like with either of these two brands for the rest of my life.

20. What brand do you think has the best packaging?

It´s Colourpop for me.  I love their packaging.  It´s always cute or cool or something like that.  Never simple or boring.  Even though they have new products every other week, it´s still very nice.

21. Which celebrity always has great makeup?

I will say Lisa from Blackpink.  Her makeup is always simple, cute and very natural, but she sometimes have a pop of colour on her lips.  Her skin is always flawless as well.  I can´t remember seeing Lisa having a bad makeup day ever.  Which I want to get to that level one day.

22.  Do you belong to any online makeup communities?

I would say so yes.  I am in a Project Pan and in general the Beauty community on Instagram and Youtube.  I also would say I am in the language community, but that´s not a makeup community.

I love and stan all these girls!  They are channels with lower subscribers than maybe what other people watch, but they do the beauty videos I like and they are not controversial which is what is more needed in the beauty community.  I added the links to their channels for you to check out!  Would recommend, because I keep rewatching their videos.  Very nice to do makeup with these in the background.

24. Do you like multifunctional products like lip and cheek stains?

Yes, I love those multifunctional products for travel purposes.  They are so easy to bring with and you don´t need 20 products when some can be used in more than one way.  Also, something else I would say are multifunctional products are face palettes.  Those like Hourglass´ face palettes, because they have powder, highlight, bronzer, and blush.  So it´s one tiny thing to bring for most of the complexion products.

25.  Are you clumsy in putting on makeup?

Aren´t everyone?  I feel like everyone does something they weren´t suppose to do when doing their makeup, or someone elses.  I can´t put on mascara or eyeliner without messing up.  So I use eyeliner less because it takes so much time to apply it and fix it.  But sometimes it goes fine.  I just have to have a technique for doing it properly.  Though it still gets messed up sometimes.

26. Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

I do.  First I started using it again because it was getting old and I needed to finish it up, but now I use it because I can see that the eyeshadow lasts longer.  The one I´m currently using is still because I need to finish it so it´s in my project pan, but I do like using it and my eyeshadow look better using it so I will use a different one when I´m done with my current one due to using the ones I already have.

27. How many hair products do you use on a typical day?

So, on the days were I shower I use shampoo, conditioner, maybe hair mask (about 1-2 pr month) and hair dryer. That´s the only thing I don´t use everyday.  But I do wear scrunchies and most days brush my hair.  There is nothing else.  Not too long ago I used dry shampoo, but I barely use it..  Just that ones in a long time..  Maybe I should use it more.. I honestly don´t know.  Since quarantine, I haven´t really cared how my hair looks, so I just wash it when I feel it is needed.  So about every 2-3 days.

28. What do you apply first, concealer or foundation?

Well, I have a colour correcting concealer I apply first under my eyes because they are that bad, then I apply foundation and then normal concealer.  I do it like that because I feel like it looks better that way.  And yes I have tried doing normal concealer first, but it didn´t look nice, so I switched and it has looked better since.

29.  Do you ever consider taking makeup classes?

Yes, I have been looking for some in Bergen, but because of Covid-19, I cannot take any physical makeup classes yet.  So I will just look online for tips and wait until later to apply for makeup classes.  It would be fun to try one time which is why I put it on my bucket list for something to do in my life.

30. What do you love about makeup?

I LOVE the creativity! Someone would do an everyday makeup look, or a full on costumey or cosplay were the person looks like something else just with makeup.  It´s so creative, fun and beautiful.  I always love seeing peoples makeup and art all the time.  So I go on TikTok and see most of them.  So many talented people I am in shock every time I see them.  We stan those queens!  But we also love the ones who love to do the everyday, what we are more used to kind of looks as well.  New techniques, new releases, new favourites, old favourites.  All of it.  The diversity but inclusivity and love is what I stan.  Keep on shinning everyone!
